Thru-wall Structural Brick, Reinforced Structural Brick Masony is not a new wall system. Reinforcing steel and grout have been used with brick masonry for over 100 years. With brick masonry's high compressive strength, reinforcing makes for an economical, high-strength wall in comparison to other reinforced masonry systems.
From a cost comparison standpoint, we are comparing installed costs of various Reinforced Brick Masonry (RBM) and Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) single wythe systems. In comparing 6" TTW brick and 8" half high CMU, in a days time, a mason and tender will install approximately 350 CMU. In that same time, 365 brick would be installed. productivity differences are due to unit size and weight. Similar productivity differences by other size TTW Brick in corresponding size CMU are also seen.
