Sustainability

Sustainable buildings are designed to use available resources efficiently and in a responsible manner, balancing environmental, societal and economic impacts to meet the design intents of today while considering future effects. Sustainable buildings and sites are designed to be energy efficient, water efficient and resource efficient. They should be resilient to withstand the effects of nature with minimal damage. Belden brick and pavers are intended to various uses. These include sustainable designs.

Green Building Ratings Systems and Standards

Belden brick can contribute to the sustainability of projects designed with standards such as like LEED® (from the U.S. Green Building Council) and ASHRAE 189.1 (Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings).

The Belden Brick Company offers information on its products and use of its products that can help in achieving sustainable building design. From our Environmental Policy, Industry-wide Environmental Product Declaration, and LEED certification letters, a designer is equipped with the information necessary to verify conformity with the various Green Building Rating Systems and Standards.

The Belden Brick Company uses clay and shale raw material to produce our brick products. This accounts for over 98% of the body content by weight. This raw material is mined in Sugarcreek, Ohio, within 10 miles of our plant locations.
