Southwest Licking Local Schools reorganized its entire district from grade-banded schools into four separate communities with K-3 neighborhood schools and a 4-12 campus. The new Watkins Intermediate School is a two-story, 91,855 square foot building that serves the fourth and fifth grades, and Watkins Memorial High School is a 235,000 square foot two-story high school designed to educate just over 1,200 students. The core spaces were designed to handle up to 1,600 students to accommodate Southwest Licking’s growing student population.

BUILT FOR EXPANSION

The aesthetic goal for the phased facility modernization program was to provide a neighborhood-school approach built for energy efficiency and expansion plan. The buildings adopt exterior brick colors, a blended range, and a masonry wall layering approach complementing the school’s spirit colors. The composition of brick types selected has notable characteristics that add a variety of color, texture, and delight and provide a sense of permanence.
